KUSH - The Experience

KUSH (Kinetically Ushering Salvation into Homes), was a quartet of three ladies and a guy- Emem Ema (Mem’O), Lara George, Toyin Sokefun (TY Bello) and Dapo Torimiro. Their debut album which was released by DKG Music in 2002 (It sadly remains their only album) was titled '' The Experience'' and it received critical reviews. Their style of music was a radical departure from what obtained on the Nigerian Gospel Music scene. Lara’s sultry voice, Ty’s sassy hair style and Emem’s rap lyrics gave the group a good mix of talents.

KUSH was a gospel group that was international in outlook, yet Nigerian enough not to be dismissed as an African-American initiative. The songs in '' The Experience '' which were well produced and arranged sounded heavenly. It was really an experience listening to the album. Tracks like '' Lets Live Together '', '' Tic Tac Toe'', ''Angels'', '' Pretty Brown Eyes '', '' La La '' et al became classics in the hearts of the group's fans.

The group broke up around 2004 for reasons not officially disclosed, but fans of KUSH (myself included) were not happy about the break up. I believe the urban gospel group should have stuck together and would have made much impact over the years, than what they are achieving individually at the moment.

Lara George is doing great as a solo gospel artist, so is TY and Emem created and runs a pioneer creative arts management company called “ONE Integrated management. Dapo on the other hand is now a music producer.

Here is their debut and only album “The Experience” ….Enjoy!
